Namo Bharat: The 72KM RRTS Corridor

The NCR region is about to undergo a major transportation transformation that was much anticipated. The 72-kilometer rail corridor is finally on its way, promising to connect key business hubs, educational institutions, and residential areas like never before. This mega project is not just about my station; it’s about unlocking a new area of convenience, efficiency, and economic growth. 

So buckle up and get ready to explore the routes of the 72-km metro rail corridor and more important information about it.

The Current Status of the Project

The Delhi Ghaziabad Meerut Metro route and all the 70-kilometer metro rail corridors are still under construction in Delhi, NCR. This corridor will connect Delhi to Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Jewar airport. The total length of the corridor is 82.15 km, of which 70.35 km is elevated and 11.8 km is underground. Construction of the corridor is currently underway.

The first phase of the project, also known as the route from Saidabad to Dubai, is expected to be completed by 2025. The Saidabad to Duhai road will be a 23-kilometer stretch. This is one of the crucial segments of the Delhi Metro, which will link the Delhi Metro line with RRTS, laying the groundwork for seamless travel.

The second phase, or the route from Duhai to Meerut, will be completed by 2027. This Dohai-Meerut root spans 38 km and is still in an early stage. The land acquisition at tender is on its way, and the construction will begin soon.

The third phase from Ghaziabad to Delhi is to be expected by 2031. This 11-kilometer route from Ghaziabad to Delhi will directly connect the RRTS with central Delhi.

Namo Bharat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India’s first regional rapid train on October 20, 2023, which is rumored to be named Namo Bharat. Whereas the foundation stone for the Delhi – GHaziabad – Meerut route was laid by Prime Minister Modi on March 8, 2019. RRTS is a new rail-based, Semi high-speed 180 km/h, high-frequency transport system. 

There will be a total of 8 RRTS corridors in NCR, Delhi, out of which 3 are implemented in Phase I and prioritized – Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut, Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar and Delhi-Panipat.

All You Need To Know About the Routes of RRTS

Ghaziabad, South Ghaziabad, Knowledge Park 5, Surajpur, Pari Chowk, Ecotech 6, Dankaur, and Sectors 18, 20, and 21 of Yamuna Authority—which are close to Noida International Airport—are among the suggested stations. Depot suggestions have been made for the Yamuna Authority’s Ecotech 6 and Sector 21 areas. But there’s a chance that the final DPR’s station count will vary. It has been suggested that this road be built in two stages. 

The first phase, which would stretch 37.15 km from Ghaziabad to Ecotech Six, should be finished by 2030. Its building is expected to cost Rs 9798.1 crore. However, the second phase, which would run from Ecotech Six to Noida International, will be around 35.11 kilometers long. 

The Funding of the 72-km Metro Rail Corridor

A new airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, will be connected to the surrounding districts by the Noida International Airport Rapid Rail Project, a significant infrastructural undertaking. The project would be built into parts at an estimated cost of Rs. 16,000 crore.

The project’s first phase is to build a 37.5 km link between Ghaziabad and Ecotech 6, and the second phase will include the construction of a 35.11 km link between Ecotech 6 and the new airport.

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation, or NCRTC, the Uttar Pradesh State Government, and the Federal Government will all contribute to the project’s finances. For the project’s initial phase, the state government will provide Rs 2,581 crore, while the national government will contribute Rs 1,804 crore. The NCRTC will raise the remaining funds through debt and other means.

The federal and state governments have made a significant financial commitment to the project, which is evidence of their dedication to improving the infrastructure of NCR Delhi. There will also be some financial gains from this initiative, such as the 10,000 jobs expected to be created during the construction of this route. In comparison, the government promises 10,000 permanent jobs after the completion of this project.

A few more basic Details about RapidX

Delhi RAPIDX is a semi-high-speed regional rapid transit system that is partly operational and under construction by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation. It will connect Delhi with its distant suburbs via eight lines with trains running at a maximum speed of 160 km per hour. 

The project, the Priority Corridor of Delhi Meerut RRTS, was inaugurated on October 20 in the year 2023. It opened two passengers and started commercial operations on October 21, 2023. 

This section of 17 km will connect Sahibabad to Duhai via four elevated stations.

The main objective of RAPIDX is to reduce commuters’ dependence on road-based transportation and increase regional connectivity within the national capital region. Within Delhi, the RRTS system will run underground. It will connect to the Delhi metro rail system and give riders a faster alternative option to reach their destination.

Many equivalent systems in the rest of the world include London cross rail, Paris RER and Munich’s Bahn systems. The Delhi to Meerut RRTS system is financed partly through an official development assistance loan from the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

The project is currently in construction, with work beginning on the 82.15km Delhi to Ghaziabad to Meerut RRTS Line. Out of this, the 17 km Sahibabad to Ghaziabad to Guldhar to Duhai section has been given priority and is expected to open in 2023. 

Bids for constructing the Gurgaon section of the 164 km Delhi – SNB – Alwar RRTS line were invented in November 2019, and the first contract was awarded in April 2020.
